Ethylene Oxide (ETO) sterilization is mainly used to sterilize medical and pharmaceutical products that cannot support conventional high temperature steam sterilization - such as devices that incorporate electronic components, plastic packaging or plastic containers.
Ethylene oxide gas infiltrates packages as well as products themselves to kill micro organisms that are left during production or packaging processes.
Safety of personnel is an important issue due to the harmful effect of ETO on humans. Cartridge brake or gas insert by cylinder only when required vacuum has reached in chamber & maintain it till sterilization period. When this toxic gas is removed from the machine it needs to be treated using by aeration phase, evacuation pipe must be placemat list 40 feet up side in the atmosphere from ground level by pipeline or be transported to an alternate facility for treatment, Such as pass through the water.
Most ETO sterilization lines involve three different stages. These can be separated into three different cells depending on the size or amount of devices to treat:
Pre Conditioning Stage:-
Sterilization Material must be to go through a proper packaging with the help of, heat sealing machine or self packing pouches.
Accurate temperature control. Safety precautions while Braking Ethylene oxide cartridge. Availability of the control system. Accurate pressure and vacuum control. Easy displays of process phases. Security interlocks.
Pre sterilization & sterilization::-
After the doors have been shut down and sealed correctly, the cycle can be started either manually or automatically. If any problem with door sealing is detected the cycle is interlocked and cannot start. Security interlocks are also used between air and ETO valves

The sterilization phases are:
Cycle start delay to enable the system to start in stable conditions General cell temperature check Initial vacuum phase Cartridge brake or gas insert from cylinder only when vacuum reached at set point. Sterilization time start as per machine size.
Aeration phase.Vacuum & filtered air reputation is remove EO gas from chamber; this process takes 2 to 4 hrs as per machines size.If machine has this function sterile material can be use immediately after completion of the cycle, otherwise it can be used after 48 hrs.
Final air inserts:
Filtered air insert in the chamber to release vacuum
Cycle complete alarm to aware operator about process completion.
